disk defragmenter

disk defragmenter

whats the deal with the disk defragmenter? i can tell how much of the disk it has defragmented and stuff. what the heck did microsoft do to it? the way they made it now, you can't even tell which drive its working on unless you open up the drive properties and tell it to work on that particular disk. i'm running a dualboot of xp and vista. know which drive is working on and stuff would be nice.

I agree. MS has made the defragmenter in Vista a "black box". Use the

free Diskeeper beta for Vista instead. Works better and provides a large amount of useful information including a graphical display as it defragments.

Does anyone know if Microsoft was in with Executive Software ( Diskkeeper) on this version like they were on the XP version?
I agree that they need to show the diagram etc to show us the status and fragmentation.

I hope someone at MS will read this. The disk defragmenter in Vista is useless. You can't tell whether it is actually doing anything (no active graphs) and it reports back that highly fragemented disks do not need to be defragged. After two weeks of using the beta, this is the most serious problem I have found. Fortunately, I am using a dual boot with XP and have both System Mechanic and Norton System Works on the XP system.

i have a dual boot of xp and vista too. the xp defragmenter is ok but the vista one needs lots of work. you can report it as an issue if you want. there is even a page where you can send them your comments and seggestions. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/sentiments/default.mspx
for a disk defragmenter in vista use the one that you can download from this site. its called disk keeper. it works good. http://www.diskeeper.com/trialware/diskeeper/vistadownload.asp "Brian" wrote in message
